Vanessa Faye Hicks-Callaway jvcallaway@aol.com 01-31-2025 7:16:04 PM CST  A Micro Bio/Introduction for US Army (LTC RET) Vanessa F. Hicks-Callaway Lieutenant Colonel, US Army Retired, Vanessa F. Hicks-Callaway is a born-again, bible believing, Christian writer, counselor and inspirational speaker from Victoria, Texas. Her ministry and the book she wrote is about Christian Decision Making. Vanessa, a staunch conservative Republican, after being appointed by the Governor of Texas for two separate boards, decided to run for the 30th District State Representative seat but was unsuccessful each time. Vanessa aspires to be the Christian, Proverbs 31 Woman, wife, and mom God expects her to be. Currently, Vanessa works for the state of Texas for the Texas Veterans Commission as a Claims Benefits Advisor/Veterans Service Officer. Vanessa loves assisting Veterans, families, and survivors improve their quality of life by helping them receive the benefits they have earned and are entitled to. Recently, Vanessa passed her real estate exam (on the first try!) and excitedly plans to help people buy and sell their homes and commercial properties primarily in Austin, Texas and its surrounding areas. Her military service spans 26 years including serving in several different states and countries. This includes two Middle Eastern combat tours (OIF and OEF) resulting in her receiving several medals, awards, and recognition, including the Bronze Star Medal. Vanessa’s higher education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Sam Houston State University (SHSU) and a master’s degree in human resources from Central Michigan University (CMU). Vanessa also has an associate degree from Liberty University for Psychology in Christian counseling. In 2023, Vanessa was awarded the prestigious Alumni Award from SHSU and now sits on their College of Humanities and Social Sciences Board of Directors. Since serving and retiring from the military, Vanessa now spends most of her time speaking publicly for her decision-making ministry, Veterans events, Christian events, Leadership events, taking care of her husband of 28 years, her two sons: Eric Callaway, also a graduate from Sam Houston State University with a master’s degree in software engineering, and her son Edward Callaway, now a culinary arts student at the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts.
